With winter just around the corner, now would be a great time to start thinking about maintaining your roofs. At Hatch Homes, we discuss the typical roofing problems to look out for.

Condensation.

If your attic is improperly insulated, excess moisture from inside the home will collect trapped air which can lead to mold and mildew, and in a result, can damage the interior structure of your home. Have your attic vented to prevent any condensation issues.

 Ice Dams.

Ice dams are emerged from snow-covered roofs and freezing weather. Melting ice and snow form the warmer sections of the roof flows down and re-freezes on the lower parts and gutters. With proper insulation and a good ventilation system, they can be minimized.

Icicles.

Icicles typically form on days when the outdoor air temperature is subfreezing, but sunshine warms and melts some snow or ice. Icicles are extremely dangerous for anyone walking underneath them along, if not rectified they can also cause clogged gutters and downspouts. With its excessive weight can even tear off gutters, loosen shingles, and cause water to back up into your house.
