Harrisburg, NC is a suburb located northeast of Charlotte. The town was settled by Scotch-Irish families between the years of 1732 and 1765. Many descendants of the earlier settlers still reside in Harrisburg. The name of the city came from Robert Harris who established himself on a piece of land in 1766. The railroad later would happen in the 1850s where the train depot would use the name Harris as well. The town name later was changed to Harrisburg in 1874. To this day the town has continued to grow in population and is known for its annual three day fourth of July celebration. The celebration consists of a parade, music, pageants and more events.
