Signs You Need to Replace Your Home’s Siding

Replacing a home’s siding may not be at the top of most homeowner’s investment list unless if it was an emergency. But, what if we told you that it should be on top of your lists? Would you believe us? Depending which siding material was installed and the area you live in, an average lifespan for siding can range 15-40 years.
After all, siding does wear out. It can crack and break which leads to leaking. And when this happens it may already be too late to repair and if the contractors can, it would be pretty expensive, which can be quite worrying just to think about. So how do you know if your siding needs replacing? Here are signs you look out for.

1. Frequent painting.
Do you find yourself re-painting your siding once every 5-6 years? This could be a good sign that there is something wrong with your siding. A good home siding should only need to be painted 8-10 years, if not longer. If you notice your siding to be chipping, peeling, or cracking, is an indication your siding is no longer performing how it should be and will need to be replaced.

2. An annual increase in billings.
If you are finding yourself paying a lot more than usual with the heating and cooling costs, the wall insulation along with siding could be the leading issues to the problem as heating or cooling may potentially escape through the siding.

3. Rotting or warping.
Take a look around your home and see if there are any warped siding or rotting boards or other damage the siding material be having. Use a screwdriver to take a peek underneath to see how solid the underlay is. If the layer underneath the home siding appears to be soft or rotting, this will need an immediate replacement.

4. Bubbles in the siding.
When looking at the home siding do you notice any bubbles under the surface of the siding? This is a clear indication that water has been trapped which is an immediate red flag as siding is meant to keep moisture away from the walls.

5. Holes in the siding.
Insects or pests usually cause holes in the siding. Once they make their way through will allow rain and snow seep in, and eventually get under the siding, which could be the beginning stage of something very costly for repairment if left alone.
